Although we may be witnessing life returning back to a somewhat normal state, researchers are still hard at work developing an antiviral medication that could serve as COVID-19 treatment and possible prevention. At Emory hospital, a drug called EID-2801 has the potential to cure COVID-19 and even other coronaviruses that could pose a threat to the health and well-being of our society in the future. The best part? It can be taken as a pill to simplify the treatment process for individuals affected. This cutting edge research has many implications for the direction we could be moving in to protect citizens and minimize deaths as a result of COVID-19. Not only would this drastically improve the survival rate from the virus, it would also likely decrease the length of recovery, meaning people could return to work sooner.

Future of EID-2801

The drug is scheduled to go through human clinical trials this spring, and if successful, would be a leading treatment for COVID-19 and other emerging coronaviruses. There are currently no antiviral drugs on the market proven to help treat COVID-19, meaning EID-2801 would be a first of its kind and groundbreaking for hospitals treating coronavirus patients around the globe. As the virus evolves, treatments would have to as well but EID-2801 shows promise in being an effective medication for various strains of coronavirus. There have been 3 coronaviruses in the past two decades, leading doctors and researchers to believe that we haven’t seen the last of coronavirus. If this drug is deemed effective through clinical trials, the hope is that there will not be as detrimental of an effect on our population the next time a new coronavirus spreads.

COVID-19 Treatment and Workers’ Compensation

If the drug is deemed successful, it will likely become the leading method for treatment of coronavirus. The cost of and accessibility to the drug are currently undetermined, however, it is hopeful that people that are suffering from coronavirus will be able to receive the treatment. If you contract coronavirus from your workplace after EID-2801 has been approved, your workers’ compensation could cover the estimated cost of receiving the required dosage of the drug for treatment. Workers’ compensation is in place to ensure any workers who incur injuries or illnesses as a result of workplace responsibilities receive adequate treatment and are compensated for their losses. If you have more questions about what the development of EID-2801 could mean for workers’ compensation or are currently suffering from coronavirus contracted at work and would like to file a claim, don’t wait another minute to contact a workers’ compensation attorney.
