Happy Women’s History Month! Every year in March, we celebrate the vital role of women in society and culture throughout history. As we acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of women across a broad range of roles—from doctors to mothers—it is also important we recognize areas in which there is still room for improvement. In looking at our own industry, law, it is clear to see where change needs to occur despite tremendous progress over the past century.

Women now make up a third of law professionals. Although this number presents a promising picture of the path women have paved for themselves within the industry, a wage-gap still exists. According to the United States census, “At mid-career, when earnings peak, the top 10 percent of female lawyers earn more than $300,000 a year, while the top 10 percent of male lawyers earn more than $500,000.” Luckily, women are working to change those discrepancies.

Advancements in equality only come about through passion, dedication, and determination to affect change. In the workers’ compensation law industry, women attorneys are actively building frameworks for diversity and inclusion through support networks. One such organization, the Alliance of Women in Workers’ Compensation, capitalizes on collaboration to provide female attorneys with mentors, mentees, and other professional resources necessary for success.

I am so thankful for the women who came before me and allowed me the opportunity to make my own mark in the workers’ compensation industry. I am so proud to stand alongside the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Georgia 2023. I hope our efforts in the industry make it possible for future generations of women to excel and push against all boundaries toward equality.

In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for workers’ rights. If you are injured at work, do not hesitate to reach out to a workers’ compensation attorney. We are here to help you get the care, compassion, and compensation you deserve. Contact Poirier Law Firm today for more information.
